Aqeedah: The Fundamentals of Faith

The scholars have a saying, that “the nobility of a knowledge, depends upon the nobility of what is being studied”. The basis of Aqeedah revolves around the belief of Allah and knowing Him, the Creator, the Greatest, the only One worthy of our worship, therefore there can be no more noble knowledge than that of Aqeedah. For many of us our knowledge of what we believe as Muslims is very superficial and basic, therefore we are sometimes unable to explain our beliefs and we are not decisive in what we are meant to believe. So questions such as who is Allah? How can we worship Him? How can we know about Him? Why did He send the Messengers? Why do we need revelation? How was the revelation sent to us? remain un-answered in our minds. This course is designed to address these deficiencies and reinforce our faith in the basic tenets of Islamic Aqeedah and delve into some of the finer details of our faith. The book studied in this course is ‘The Fundamentals of Faith’ by Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Salih Al Uthaymeen.

Aqeedah: Sharh us Sunnah (Explanation of the Creed)

Written by the Imam of Ahlus Sunnah of his time, Imam Al Barbahaari’s ‘Sharh Us Sunnah’ or Explanation of the Creed is often misunderstood and misused by some. Written as an exposition of the Aqeedah (Creed) of the Saved Sect, Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah, the book covers many issues about our beliefs, refutations of the deviated beliefs of some historical and contemporary groups, and even some of the practices and Fiqhi rulings to which we adhere and the people of innovation and deviation do not. This course is designed for all those wanting to learn the details of what we believe, and is aimed at all levels irrespective of whether or not one has studied Aqeedah previously. This course is based on the book ‘Sharh Us Sunnah’ (Explanation of the Creed) by Imam Al Barbahaari.

Fiqh: Manhaj As Salikeen (Food & Clothing)

Allah has laid down laws and legislations which every believer is required to uphold in all aspects of his life. Therefore a servant of Allah pays great attention to the Shar’i rulings pertaining to his clothing, his food, his drink, his earning etc. The Prophet (SAW) stated the importance of consuming Halal, in this world and the next, for instance he (SAW) informed us that eating Haram will be a cause for the rejection of our supplications. For this reason the Muslim should be aware of eating that which is it not permissible to eat, and clothing himself with that which he is not permitted to be clothed in. This course aims to Inshaa Allah deal with the topics of food and clothing and its various rulings, which many are unaware of, through the study of Manhaj as Salikeen.

Fiqh: Usool ul Fiqh (The Principles of Fiqh)

Usool Ul Fiqh is essentially the science of studying the sources and principles of Fiqh and understanding how to apply them in order to derive rulings on particular issues. Though this is done by a scholar / Mujtahid, studying this subject will broaden one’s understanding and enable students to see the reasons for the differences of opinions amongst the scholars. In doing so, one is better equipped to understand and appreciate the process of Ijtihaad, thus protect students from falling into the extreme of ‘Madhab fanaticism’ whereby one completely closes the doors to Ijtihaad. At a time when there is so much confusion regarding issues of Taqleed (blind following) and differences of opinion, this course is an essential for those who want clarification. This course will look at the evidence for the key sources of the religion and give a detailed definition of each one. This course will also cover the five main legal maxims of Fiqh (Al Qawaa’id Al Fiqhiyyah) and touch upon the higher objectives of the Shari’ah (Al Maqaasid Ash Shari’ah) in order to enable students to appreciate the beautiful aspects of the Shari’ah and most importantly the One Who gave us this way of life which revolves around bringing about ease and maximising benefit. This course is based on Imam As Sa’di’s ‘Brief Essay Concerning Usool Ul Fiqh’.

History: Al Asharah tul Mubasharah (The 10 Promised Paradise)

“And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhajirin and the Ansar and those who followed them exactly [in faith]. Allah is well pleased with them as they are well pleased with Him”, [Surah At Taubah: 100] The first generation of Muslims were no doubt the greatest Muslims in terms of their faith, their sacrifice and their honour of having met the greatest of creation, the Messenger of Allah (SAW). And yet, most Muslims today know less about them than they do about the personalities they see around them in the media. How can we possibly aspire to follow in their footsteps and reach their ranks when we spend more time learning about the lives of personalities than the lives of these great men, whom Allah Himself is pleased with. This course is aimed at those who wish to derive benefits from the lives of those who were closest to the Messenger (SAW) in his times of need and in making Islam victorious, without whom, undoubtedly Islam would not have reached us.

Aqeedah: Al Qawa’id ul Muthlaa (Exemplary Principles Regarding the Names & Attributes of Allah)

“And to Allah belong the most beautiful Names, so call upon Him using them” [7:180] Indeed, the first duty of a servant (of Allah) is to know Allah, but how are we to know Him? Are we to know Him according to the Qur’an and the Sunnah or according to a method contrary to this? This issue has caused much confusion, partition and division therefore it is imperative that we know how to understand correctly our Lord’s beautiful Names & Attributes, in accordance to the beliefs of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah, so that we may worship Him upon clarity. We do not surpass the method of the Qur’an and Sunnah but describe Allah with what He and His Messenger described Him with. The course is based on the text ‘Exemplary Principles Concerning the Names & Attributes of Allah’ written by Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al Uthaymeen. This text covers the principles needed to understand the Names & Attributes of Allah.

Tarbiyyah: 40 Hadith Pertaining to Children

It is the responsibility of every parent to ensure that their children are raised upon correct Islamic teachings. The religion places great emphasis concerning their upbringing since they will be the carriers of Islam. It is these children that will preserve the Deen in the future and so it is imperative that we pay attention to their education and upbringing in order to raise a generation of good Muslims. If they are set aright they will support the religion of Islam – spreading it and calling to it. For this reason it is vital that we are well-equipped with the knowledge and tools required to bring about an upright righteous generation who will, by the permission of Allah, bring greater good and benefit with the following generation. This course deals with the various rulings and etiquettes pertaining to children and is based on a compilation of Ahadith entitled ‘40 Hadith Pertaining to Rulings & Etiquettes of Children’, collected by ‘Aadil al Ghaamidi.
